Harbourfront Centre is Toronto's top family destination with a great fall lineup of activity
Toronto, August 29, 2005—This fall, Sundays
are the perfect time to
bring the entire family to Harbourfront Centre. From 1 to 5 p.m., a
fun-filled afternoon of creative experiences awaits parents and kids
alike. ZOOM!
Family Sundays features a variety of hands-on
activities, concerts, tours of our many art exhibitions and more! Admission is free, unless otherwise
noted. Harbourfront Centre is located at 235 Queens

ZOOM! FALL LINEUP
ZOOM! Room Activities
Sundays,
beginning on October
9 to December 18 and December 27
to 30, from 1 to 5 p.m., families are invited to the ZOOM! Room, a
fun interactive space. The ZOOM! Room features an interactive puppet
area and
the LEGO Creative Play Area where kids can use their imagination to
build a
robot, a creature and more! On November
27, December 4, 11 & 18, children
can create their own piece of art using everyday salvaged and scrap
objects.
Books and Authors
Beginning
on October 23, The ZOOM! Room also includes the
International Readings
Family Library, where kids can read from a selection of great
international
children’s books. Also on October 23 at
1 p.m., as part of the International Festival of Authors, October
19 to 29,
bestselling author Kenneth Oppel reads from Skybreaker,
the sequel to Airborn, which won the Governor
General Award. Each ticket is $10 ($8 for Harbourfront Reading Series
Members).

Gallery Kids
Sundays, from October
9 to December 18 and December 27 to
30, the entire family can engage in exploring contemporary art!
Gallery
Kids combines tours of Harbourfront Centre’s galleries with hands-on
interactive activities facilitated by gallery staff. It’s all a family
friendly
discovery of contemporary art. Families must meet in the ZOOM! Room at 2
p.m. to begin the gallery tour, afterwards return to the ZOOM! Room
for a
creative activity.

exhibitions are presented in collaboration with the International
Festival of
Authors.

Tour and activity is
based on Untitled (Music Box Installation),
a sound and mixed media installation by Alex Geddie, Annie
MacDonell
and Nick Stedman.

Patricia O’Callaghan
Patricia
O’Callaghan, a world class
cabaret singer, is excited about her first cabaret performance for children. Joined by Robert Kortgaard on
piano and Andrew Morris on percussion, O’Callaghan’s
performance
includes the music of Francis Poulenc, Franz Schubert, Kurt
Weill, as
well as Sesame Street and
excerpts from Peggy the Lamb, her own
children’s story set to music.
October
16 at 1 p.m. Daniel Bolshoy
Daniel
Bolshoy, an engaging young
musician, is dedicated to bringing classical guitar to the attention of
audiences everywhere. Bolshoy is regularly praised for his friendly and
informative spoken introductions and progressive programming of solo
and chamber
music.
November
13 at 1 p.m.
All
for One and One for All
All for One and One for All is a theatrical
performance by an ensemble of
four young string players, who are all nervous and competitive as they
audition
for the World Orchestra at the King’s palace. As they begin to play for
each
other, their love for music triumphs over their competitive
differences. The
repertoire stretches from Dvorak to the Beatles.
December
18 at 1 p.m.
Cadence
Four
men, four microphones, no instruments,
this is the formula for Toronto’s
celebrated vocal band, Cadence. The quartet illustrates that the voice
is the most
versatile of all instruments in a programme of Christmas favourites.

Me and My
Shadow
A
traditional Indonesian shadow puppet
performance for families followed by a hands-on workshop by the artists.

Trautman: The Stooge-
A Troubled Clown for Troubled
Times
A clown
lives to entertain audiences, but the outside world is a troublesome
thing. Families
are invited to join this wonderful character as he does his best to
make his
place in the world of many interruptions.

Family Film
December
11 at 1 p.m. Dave
Bidini: The Hockey Nomad Goes to
Russia
This
documentary shows Dave Bidini’s journey
across Russian looking for the story of hockey. He looks at the former
Soviet
stars, to the best of the new talent, to the most intense super fans.
December
27 to 30 at 1 p.m. The
Peace Tree
This film
looks at a Muslim girl who dreams of celebrating Christmas, while her
Christian
friend imagines celebrating Eid. Met
with resistance from their parents, they make a peace tree instead,
celebrating
all religions, unity and diversity.
