COC Artists
Confirmed For Special guest stars confirmed to date include
audience favourite, bass-baritone Pavlo Hunka,
returning for his third consecutive season at the COC this fall in the
title role in Macbeth. Additional
members of Macbeth’s cast include Hungarian soprano Georgina Lukács, making her Canadian debut at the
concerts before performing on the mainstage as Lady Macbeth; bass Burak Bilgili, who sings the role of Banquo and has wowed
audiences at two previous summer concerts; and popular Canadian tenor,
COC Ensemble Studio graduate Roger Honeywell, who is
Macduff. Audiences can also expect to hear Russian
soprano Larissa Kostiuk and Romanian tenor Atilla
B. Kiss, who sing the roles of Carmen and Don José in the COC’s
fall production Carmen. Other
artists from Carmen include rising young star, Spanish
soprano Ana Ibarra, who sings Micaëla, and Brazilian
baritone Paulo Szot, who performs the role of
Escamillo. Both Ibarra and Szot will make their
Canadian debuts at the concerts.
As previously announced, members of the COC
Ensemble Studio performing this year include sopranos Michèle
Bogdanowicz, Virginia Hatfield, Joni
Henson, Miriam Khalil, Jessica Muirhead
and Yannick-Muriel Noah, mezzo-sopranos Melinda
Delorme and Lauren Segal, tenors Victor
Micallef and Lawrence
J. Wiliford, and
baritones Peter Barrett and Justin Welsh.
A highly anticipated annual event, these
concerts attract approximately 10,000 people to Harbourfront each year,
filling seats hours before the performances begin. The
concerts are part of Altamira Summer Arts which
include performances by the Toronto Symphony Orchestra and The National
Ballet of Canada. Now in its 11th straight
