Toronto, Ontario – For the 11th straight year, Altamira
Investment Services and the Canadian Opera Company
continue the enormously popular tradition of opera by the lake when Altamira
Summer Arts presents the COC in concert on Tuesday, August 30,
Wednesday, August 31 and Thursday, September 1 at 8 p.m. at
Harbourfront Centre’s CIBC Stage (235 Queen’s Quay West).
The concerts are FREE with unreserved general seating. A $5 donation is suggested with proceeds supporting
the Regent Park School of Music.
A highly anticipated annual event, these
concerts attract approximately 10,000 people to Harbourfront each year,
filling seats hours before the performances begin. The
concerts are part of Altamira Summer Arts which
include performances by the Toronto Symphony Orchestra and The National
Ballet of Canada.
The Altamira Summer Arts opera concerts are an exciting opportunity to
preview the extraordinary voices of the artists appearing with the COC
during the opera season as well as to enjoy the
internationally-acclaimed COC Orchestra led by COC General Director Richard Bradshaw. Special guest stars for this year’s concerts
will be drawn from the COC’s fall productions of Macbeth
and Carmen as well as include the rising young opera stars of the COC Ensemble Studio who dazzle
the crowds each year. A special musical performance by
children who attended the COC’s Summer Opera Camps is another annual
highlight.
Over the past 10 years, the summer opera concerts have raised more than $270,000 for
various children’s charities. In appreciation
of donations of $10 or more, people will receive Operafare
7, a CD of opera excerpts chosen by the COC from the
Universal Classics catalogue highlighting the forthcoming 2005/06
season.
