TORONTO April 12, 2005—Week One of World Stage:
Flying Solo launches this
week with four mainstage shows, a Reading Series
and a visual
arts installation and a whole lot of festival buzz in Hangar 7.
Hush
Production’s A Mobile Thriller, which
takes place
in a car-ride at night, through the streets of Toronto, is already sold out,
as are
Laurie Anderson’s The End Of The Moon
performances.
Rosebud: The Lives of Orson Welles written by Mark
Jenkins and
starring Christian McKay opens on Wednesday. Dave
Gorman’s
Googlewhack! Adventure written and performed by award-winning,
British
stand-up comedian Dave Gorman opens Thursday
along with Kafka And Son starring Alon Nashman. All
shows are $25
each except Kafka And Son, part of Harbourfront Centre’s HATCH:
emerging performance projects which is $15 . Tickets are available

with performers, write their own reviews and swap critiques, enjoy

Karaoke on Friday nights, live music on Saturday nights and get
refreshed at
our licensed Hangar 7 - open 6
p.m. until closing. It’s the festival hot-spot! Hangar 7 is
located on
the second level at the south end of York Quay Centre, 235 Queens Quay West. Hangar
7 will also provide a
satellite
box office for the convenience of patrons.
Saturday, April 16: AIM (Association of Improvising Musicians, Toronto)
AIM Toronto
presents an evening of music in collaboration with Harbourfront Centre
as part
of the Flying Solo festival. The Association of Improvised
Musicians
- Toronto, in Collaboration with Harbourfront Centre, presents an
evening
of solo and group improvisation featuring: Alto saxophonist, John
Oswald,
Guitarist, Michael Keith, Trumpeter, Gord Allen,
Guitarist and
electronics musician, Nilan Pereira and from the UK,
percussionist, Roger
Turner.
With the bulk of improvised music
being collaborative,
people often overlook the long tradition of improvised solo playing,
epitomized
by such artists as Derek Bailey, Evan Parker, and Anthony Braxton.
The concert will feature 5 improvisers
performing
short solo sets of 15-20 minutes, ending with a
collaborative
set in which the musicians jam on the musical ideas explored through
the
evening. Coordinated by Nick Fraser.
AIM takes the stage on Saturday at 10:00PM in
Hangar 7 located on the 2nd
Floor, York Quay Centre, 235 Queens Quay West. FREE ADMISSION!.

whose performances The End of the Moon

out, will take the podium at The Power Plant’s International
Lecture
Series at 1 p.m. on April, 21 in the Studio Theatre.
